The present composition follows Rubens's monumental canvas painted in Flanders circa 1617-20 and destined for the Torre de la Reina in the Royal Alcázar of Madrid (originally a fortress and later the Royal Palace of Madrid). Many of the artworks originally in the palace were destroyed in a fire in 1734, but Rubens's painting is today in the Museo del Prado, Madrid.¹
